Donald A. Dibbern, Jr., MD, FAAAAI
Dr. Donald Dibbern attended college at Harvard, where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Biology magna cum laude. He then attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and received his M. D. in 1996. During medical school, he traveled to Scotland for extra training in Geriatrics at the University of Edinburgh School of Medicine. He was also later selected as a Howard Hughes Medical Institute—National Institutes of Health Research Scholar and studied at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development for one year. This research led to several publications, including articles in the Journal of Clinical Investigation and Neuroscience. After completing medical school, his training in Internal Medicine was on the Osler Medical Service at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. His fellowship training in Allergy and Clinical Immunology was received at a joint program in Denver, at both the National Jewish Medical and Research Center, as well as at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.
Dr. Dibbern moved to the Portland area in 2001 and joined the Allergy Clinic in the private practice of allergy. He has also served on the faculty of the Division of Allergy and Clinical Immunology at Oregon Health and Sciences University as Adjunct Assistant Professor of Medicine and Dermatology. While at OHSU, he founded and directed the Multidisciplinary Urticaria Clinic and managed the Doernbecher Pediatric Allergy Clinic.
Dr. Dibbern is a member of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, where he serves on the Urticaria and Angioedema Committee, and was elected as a Fellow of the Academy in 2005. His particular clinical interest in the field of allergy involves urticaria (hives) and other allergic skin conditions. He has written reviews of these topics for the Clinics of North America series of medical journals. Other published work in the field of allergy includes writing on food and drug allergies and allergic sinusitis.
In addition to patient care and teaching, Dr. Dibbern also enjoys international travel, SCUBA diving, and the cinema.
